Running belt
To improve their Parkinson’s symptoms, many patients wear a small pump through which they receive the active ingredient apomorphine into the subcutaneous fatty tissue using a small, fine needle. To achieve the purpose of symptom control, the pump must be worn throughout the day, and in some cases at night. The pump itself is usually small and light, which makes it comfortable to wear. However, individual sensitivity to wearing such a device may vary. Some people may find it more comfortable than others. The manufacturers of apomorphine pumps do their best to make daily wearing of the pump as comfortable as possible for the patient. The comfort of wearing an apomorphine pump depends on various factors. Not every Parkinson’s patient rests much. Many Parkinson’s patients are very mobile; and that’s good! Many people do sports such as running, hiking, gymnastics or dancing. It may be that the pump bag developed by the manufacturer seems impractical. That’s why we would like to mention the running belt at this point.
A running belt can be a comfortable alternative to the traditional pump bag. It offers optimal support without slipping. Nothing feels uncomfortable. The fit and wearing comfort are optimal and comfortable on the hips or waist. Most running belts are made of pleasantly soft and easily washable material, which promises a high level of flexibility. Many manufacturers offer running belts with several small compartments. This means that other utensils of different sizes, such as keys or some change, can be stored next to the pump. Or a reserve catheter in case a new needle needs to be inserted along the way.
Since the conventional running belts that can be purchased in all online shops do not have any protection against external shocks (unlike the manufacturer’s original carrying bag), special attention is required when handling the pump. To avoid defects due to impact, the pump should be carried with the display to the side of the body. In principle, any shocks or carelessness must be avoided at all costs.
To ensure that nothing can slip or fall out of the belt, make sure that the small T compartments can be closed with a zipper.
